Begin Within grew from something we have seen time and again: not every individual, couple or family needs another intervention, course or psychologist. Sometimes, people simply need someone who listens, helps them reflect and guides them back to the basics.

The idea became clear while supporting a family who believed their child needed extreme help. Once we helped the parents understand the situation and reflect on their own responses, positive change began. We saw the same with individuals and couples who felt trapped in recurring patterns. One honest conversation, a new perspective and practical guidance gave them something to hold on to.

At Begin Within, your story does not have to fit into a fixed timeframe. We create space to listen, reflect and understand what may be happening beneath the surface. Our approach respects different relationships, cultures, backgrounds and ways of thinking. Because before we look outside ourselves for answers, we believe the first step is to begin within.

Afra is a KIWA-certified counsellor and coach with a background in social work and a registration with the Dutch Quality Register for Youth Professionals (SKJ) for youth practice. She works between the Netherlands and the UAE, where she is building a DCD-route social-care license.

Her focus: family systems, parenting through moves, and expats in the UAE.
